Sharing My Passion Of Clay

It’s been a wonderful year sharing my passion as a sculptor.

I have been approached by art teachers and head teachers to join them and deliver various projects to primary and secondary aged pupils. Interestingly they have taught me a few things about the work they have been doing so the learning has been a two way process. Sadly many children don’t experience playing with clay due to the strains on school budgets so it’s extra special for me to visit them.

As well as working with children I have ran a number of stand alone workshops for adults, making mugs, green men plaques and christmas tree decorations in Ulverston, home of MUDFest at Ford Park. If you didn’t know already I’m the founder and organiser of MUDFest which is a ceramics festival in South Cumbria. It takes place every year in May and further information can be found at www.mud-fest.co.uk

I have also been asked to share my skills at other peoples festivals like the Medieval Festival at Furness Abbey and AutumnFest in Portland Walk which have both been alot of fun and help to spread the interest in ceramics in my local area.

Visiting community groups has also been on my list this year. Using the techniques of pinch potting we have made various interpretations of a vessel. It’s always interesting to see everyone’s makes as they all start with the same material but the end points are so varied.

I am currently setting up regular classes for 2025 given the demand locally, details of which are available here

Looking forward to the new year ahead.
